Clio is a private, venture-backed legal software company founded in the Vancouver area in 2008 and incorporated as Themis Solutions Inc. Its platform spans practice and matter management, client intake, document automation and, since late 2025, legal research and AI analysis, and a 2025 financing valued the company at 5 billion dollars, placing it among the largest independent legal technology businesses.

Jack Newton and Rian Gauvreau built Clio as one of the first cloud practice management systems for small firms, then moved upmarket through acquisition: Lawyaw for document automation, ShareDo in March 2025 for enterprise matter management, and vLex for 1 billion dollars in November 2025, which added the Vincent legal research and AI product. The vLex purchase closed alongside a 500 million dollar Series G led by New Enterprise Associates, with TCV, JMI Equity and Goldman Sachs Asset Management participating.
